The Taylorstown Community Store, Inc. is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the historic Taylorstown Store and informing the public about its historic significance. More than 150 individuals and businesses have contributed time, money, and talent to help advance our mission; their names can also be found below.

Board of Directors
Tamar Datan, President
Tamar is Executive Vice President of the Amazon Conservation Team, a nonprofit working with indigenous tribes to save the Amazon rainforest. She was previously a consultant in economic development, conservation, and philanthropy, and also formerly Vice President of The Nature Conservancy and Director of its Compatible Ventures Group, where she created market-based strategies for conservation in rural communities across the country and raised $10 million to create new programs and businesses. Prior to that, she was a Program Officer with The Pew Charitable Trusts, managing an interdisciplinary grants portfolio of $100 million over seven years. Tamar earned a master's degree from Harvard University and a bachelor's at Swarthmore College. She was born in Jerusalem, Israel, and lived in West Virginia, Indiana, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania before settling in Virginia in 1997. Tamar currently chairs the Loudoun County Economic Development Commission and Housing Advisory Board. She enjoys gardening, camping, writing, hiking, biking and running the hills of Taylorstown.
Richard Weaver, Secretary
Richard lives a short walk from the store at Whiskey Hill, a 250-year old house that used to be a distillery. He is a Program Director with America Online, Inc., where he manages the advertising standards and guidelines for the AOL, Netscape, and CompuServe Internet services. Richard is a former journalist who has traveled to or reported from more than 30 countries and several aircraft carriers at sea. His books include "Around Lexington, Virginia" and "The Citrus Industry in the Sunshine State." After graduating from Washington and Lee University with a major in broadcast journalism, he worked at CNN Headline News in Atlanta before moving to Washington DC in 1999 and Taylorstown in 2004.
Tami Carlow
Tami is married to Perry and has two young girls, Shea and McKenna. She lives in Taylorstown within walking distance to the store. She is an entomologist and formerly worked at the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC for 10 years in the insect collection. She was born in Rome, NY and grew up in New Hampshire. She received her B. S. in entomology from Cornell University and her M. S. in entomology from Texas A & M University. Her other interests include masters swimming, triathlons and traveling the world. She is currently president of the Taylorstown Community Association.
Allen Kitselman
H. Allen Kitselman III, 46, has lived in Berryville for 19 years. He grew up in historic Waterford, Virginia. A graduate of Virginia Tech, he is a registered Architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects. He has served 6 years as Berryville Town Councilman for Ward 2. He has served on the Berryville Architectural Review Board and is currently the Chairman of the Berryville Area Development Authority. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Waterford Foundation. He is President and co-founder of Main Street Architecture, PC an architectural practice established in 1991 designing residential, commercial, and interior architecture. Before retiring in 2000 he was a singer / songwriter / guitarist and founder of the band Genghis Angus touring and performing across the country. He lives on South Church Street in Berryville with his wife, Laura and son, Dylan.
Grady O'Rear
Grady is President and CEO of Green AdvantageTM, a national certification program geared to developers, builders and general contractors who seek proficiency in sustainable materials use and green building techniques. Green AdvantageTM will make it easier, more affordable, and more common for builders, developers, architects, etc. to realize the benefits of green building. Grady is also the developer of EcoVillage, an environmentally friendly, socially responsive community in Taylorstown. (More information can be found at www.ecovillages.com.) He was formerly the founding President and CEO of a comprehensive, non-profit, mental health organization. Named as a "Point of Light" by the White House, the agency offers treatment, rehabilitation, transportation and housing services and has developed over 50 homes and two commercial facilities. The 30,000 square foot rehabilitation and national training and education center, built in 1991, is considered one of the country's most energy efficient office buildings. His education includes a B.A. in Education and an M.A. in Clinical Psychology.
Dave Wiseman
Dave is founder and president of Useful Studios, a company that uses skills in design and technology to build useful products, because useful products raise the quality of business and the quality of life. Prior to Useful Studios, Dave served as the Creative Director for Iconixx, a marketing communications company, where he was responsible for the hiring, mentoring, and professional development of a large interactive development staff. During his tenure there, Dave oversaw the development and evolution of the company's web development methodology. He led web initiatives for Mobil, Geico, Riggs Bank, Pepco, Sprint, and others. Dave has earned regional, national, and international awards for design since his graduation from Virginia Commonwealth University with degrees in Journalism and Design.

In 2003, a group of local residents formed a nonprofit corporation called the Taylorstown Community Store, Inc. which purchased the property, with plans to renovate and reopen it as a vibrant country store with a natural foods emphasis.
